On the side of working on my portfolio, I decided I needed a project without as much pressure, just for me.  I recalled what I used to use every amount of my spare time doing in highschool, before the epic persuit of improvment in art began!  This was a story I was writing!

I decided to try and turn it into a web comic!  Something I can restart as many times as I want if I feel I have improved beyond what I originally posted.  AND it will keep me drawing something consistantly, and more!

However, this CANNOT interfere with my portfolio SOOOOO it is only a weekday after work project.  First thing: redesigning the characters.

This is a revamped lieca reel I have recently finished, based on an old school project.  The audio is from the original project, so I apologize for it’s quality.  I recorded it back before I took my sound class in college. ^_^

ALL of the story boards, including the begining layout painting, I have recently drawn and created.  I love story so much, I really need to get more storyboards and reels like this in my portfolio!

REALLY focusing on loosening up lately - a very difficult thing for me for some reason. ~_~* So here are some sketches and gestures in pen!

Brushtail Possum Gestures

Working on designing a cute possum character! Sadly, I have no direct connection with these australian critters, so all these pictures were drawn from images found on Google. Better than nothing though! I love their round fluffy shapes!

Buttercup Development

Here are some more developmental sketchs of my American Opossum! I find this character a lot more fun to draw so far! Here I was working out her mouth shape and how it would work with her head. She is to be the companion character to the cute possum above.

cat and dog gestures

Some pen sketches of my cats - REALLY trying to loosen up and FEEL the animal’s rather than BUILD them… if that makes sense. The dogs I gestured while at a dog park - it was very difficult to construct anything watching the dogs moving around so much! It was a good exercise for me though. Drew them in pencil.

Sketches worth showing from my various trips to the zoo this month!  I am really inspired to keep drawing bears - the two here are SUPPOSED to be Spectacled Bears, but they just look bear-esque at the moment. ^_^*  Gotta keep practicing for sure!  But at least I enjoy it!

I read somewhere it is supposed to help with confidence, and generally just improving with art, to draw with pen. 

 Here are some sketches of Marjane Satrapi when I saw her give a lecture in my home city.  It was a very inspring and exciting lecture to attend!  I never would have dreamed I would get to see this amazing woman in person!  I admit I was quite far away, so more of her likeness in the sketches was drawn from what I’ve seen in Persepholis

Since such an exciting subject is not always available, I have taken to practicing pen and animal sketches with my cats!  Nothing too exciting, but I hope it will help me in the long run ^_^

I recently signed up for a zoo membership, meaning I can go as many times as I want for the price of only 5 actual trips!! This will do WONDERS for my animal drawing praciting!!

Here are some of my first zoo-trip-of-the-year sketches. Still working on getting familiar with the animals before I do any real caricaturing.

My next portfolio project is to work on my animal drawings and storyboard skills. These are sketches I made while I expored ‘possums and their ugliness! As the story is developing, it seems Australian possums will be in the mix as well! Stay Tuned!
